Charles William Bemrose was the younger brother of .Charles William Bemrose had two susters, Violet Mary Bemrose and  a younger sister Evelyn Alice Bemrose who was born in Rolleston in 1922 (she did not marry).

Charles William Bemrose was known to the family as Bill.  He was born at Branston, Leicestershire on 31 August 1889 and was killed in action in France 11 April 1918 and has no known grave.  He was Private 241281 in B Company of the First Battalion of the Kings Own Scottish Borderers.  His name is inscribed on the Ploegsteert Memorial, Comienes-Warnetonhainaut, Belgium.  This memorial is dedicated “To the Glory of God and to the Memory of 11447 Officers and men of the forces of the British Empire, who fell fighting in the years 1914-1918 between the River Douve and the towns of Estaires and Furnes, whose names are here recorded but to whom the fortune of war denied the known and honoured burial given to their comrades in death.” 

Charles' name is also inscribed on the Menin Gate.


His sister Violet kept the last letter that Charles wrote to her from France before he was killed. Violet never got over the death of her brother.
